Tyler's restaurant scene is set to welcome a new competitor as Dave's Hot Chicken plans to open a location on S. Broadway Avenue. The establishment is targeting an opening date of April 16, 2027, with construction expected to commence in November.

The project involves an approximate $500,000 renovation of the vacated Whataburger building situated on S. Broadway Avenue, directly in front of the Walmart retail store. This specific location has been vacant since Whataburger constructed a new restaurant in The Village at Cumberland Park.

Dave's Hot Chicken will enter a competitive market in Tyler, adding to the city's numerous chicken-focused restaurants. Tyler is currently home to several established chains, including Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane's, Slim Chickens, Layne's Chicken Fingers, Golden Chick, and Chicken Express, in addition to various local wing outlets. This new entry will vie for a share of Tyler's robust demand for chicken dishes.

Information regarding the new Tyler location, including details on construction and licensing permits for the project, has reportedly been filed with the State of Texas. These filings were noted in a social media post from Coming Soon Texas, which also provided the estimated renovation cost.

Dave's Hot Chicken originated in 2017, beginning as a pop-up in a parking lot in East Hollywood. The brand has since expanded significantly, becoming known for its hot chicken. Its growth now extends across 45 states, with 36 locations currently operating within Texas. The closest existing Dave's Hot Chicken to Tyler is located on Town East Boulevard in Mesquite.

The menu at Dave's Hot Chicken features a variety of chicken options, including tenders and sliders, alongside 'hot mozz' and other meal choices. For those seeking alternatives, cauliflower chicken is also available. Complementary side dishes include fries and mac and cheese, while beverage selections feature slushers and shakes.

A key aspect of the restaurant's offering is its customizable spice levels, providing seven choices to patrons. These range from 'No Spice' for a milder experience up to the intense 'Reaper' level. Customers who choose the 'Reaper' spice level are reportedly required to sign a liability waiver, underscoring the extreme heat of this option.

Following the anticipated construction start in November, Tyler residents can expect Dave's Hot Chicken to open its doors on S. Broadway Avenue in April 2027.
