Gilmer, Texas – The Gilmer football team emerged victorious over Kilgore with a final score of 64-50 in a recent high school football game. The contest, held in Gilmer, was characterized by significant offensive output from both sides, leading to a high-scoring affair with several lead changes.
Gilmer initiated the scoring when Tayveon Horne carried the ball for a 2-yard touchdown run. The subsequent point-after kick was successful, giving Gilmer an early 7-0 advantage. Kilgore quickly responded, with Braddox Johnson executing a play-action pass out of the shotgun. Johnson connected with Tyler Johnigan on a 7-yard stop route, and Johnigan fought into the end zone for a touchdown. A successful point-after kick tied the score at 7-7.
Gilmer soon reclaimed the lead. Zade Taylor, operating from the shotgun formation, dropped back and threw a pass down the right sideline. Kaden Canady caught the ball in stride and continued for a 75-yard touchdown. The point-after kick was good, making the score 14-7. Taylor then kept the ball himself, running to the right side and cutting upfield for a 19-yard touchdown run. This, coupled with another successful point-after kick, extended Gilmer's lead to 21-7.
Kilgore narrowed the margin when Braddox Johnson faked a handoff and then threw right to the end zone, finding Brenton Mumphrey for a 10-yard touchdown pass. The point-after kick was good, bringing Kilgore's total to 14 points against Gilmer's 21.
Tayveon Horne added to Gilmer's score by taking a handoff up the middle, breaking a tackle attempt, and pushing into the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown run. A two-point conversion attempt was successful, further increasing Gilmer's lead to 29-14. Kilgore continued to compete, as Johnson delivered a quick pass down the right sideline to Tyler Johnigan. Johnigan shook off a defender and walked into the end zone for a 44-yard touchdown reception. The point-after kick was good, bringing Kilgore's score to 21 points while Gilmer maintained 29.
Following this high-scoring victory, Gilmer's season record improves to 2-1. The team is scheduled to travel to Sulphur Springs for their next game. Kilgore's record now stands at 0-2, and they are set to host Bullard in their upcoming matchup.
