Jucys Taco in Tyler officially closed its doors on Friday, September 25, after a two-year operational period at its 2701 Old Henderson Highway location. A store representative attributed the decision to cease operations to a combination of lower-than-expected sales volume and the inherent challenges posed by the specific location. The closure marks the end of the brand’s Tex-Mex concept in Tyler.
The restaurant first welcomed customers in early October 2024, establishing itself as a Tex-Mex offshoot of the widely recognized East Texas Jucys Hamburgers franchise, which originally launched in Longview in 1980. Over its two years in Tyler, Jucys Taco became known for a diverse menu that included burritos, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, and salads. Its “Taco Bar” catering setups were also a popular offering, providing a convenient option for local events and gatherings.
This recent closure in Tyler follows a pattern of strategic adjustments made by the brand regarding its taco footprint elsewhere in East Texas. For instance, a Jucys Taco location in Palestine operated from 2020 until its eventual closure in 2023, after which the property was converted into a Jucys Hamburgers storefront. Similarly, a Jucys Taco in Henderson operated from 2019 until mid-2025 before that property was also replaced by a Jucys Hamburgers establishment. These instances reflect a proactive approach by the company to evaluate and adapt its business model in response to market conditions and location performance.
Despite the shutdown of the Tyler location, management has underscored its commitment to its employees. A company representative conveyed that the company is actively “taking good care of their employees,” with a significant number of staff members from the Old Henderson Highway site transitioning into available roles at existing, neighboring Jucys Hamburgers restaurants. This initiative aims to ensure continued employment for affected staff, demonstrating a focus on workforce welfare during the transition.
For patrons who appreciate the Jucys Taco experience, the brand continues to operate four other locations across East Texas. These include a storefront in Marshall, situated at 2109 Victory Dr. Additionally, Longview hosts three active Jucys Taco establishments: one at 2609 Judson Rd., another at 1470 W. Marshall Ave., and a third at 4002 Estes Pkwy. These remaining locations will continue to serve the Tex-Mex offerings that were briefly available in Tyler. The decision to close the Tyler Jucys Taco, while ending its presence in the city, does not signify a complete withdrawal of the taco brand from the broader East Texas market, but rather a realignment of its operational strategy based on specific localized performance indicators as reported by a store representative. The company will continue its operations through its established hamburger outlets and its remaining Jucys Taco locations.
