Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway has been recognized as The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for his performance during the fifth week of the college football season. The award acknowledges outstanding individual play by a college football player with a connection to Texas.
Lagway earned the honor after a commanding performance in Baylor’s 55-19 victory over Arizona State. In that game, he delivered a career-high four passing touchdowns, completing 25 of 40 attempts for 306 yards. Demonstrating his dual-threat capability, he also contributed an 11-yard rushing touchdown, marking his fifth total score of the game.
A graduate of Willis High School, Lagway's weekly recognition highlights a season marked by diverse and impactful plays. Beyond the specific game that earned him the Player of the Week title, his collegiate record includes multiple instances where his versatile skills have been on display. For example, he has recorded a game with 25 carries for 188 rushing yards and a touchdown, complementing his ground efforts with a 14-yard reception. In another notable outing, Lagway completed 18 of 33 passes for 239 yards while also rushing 13 times for 50 yards and securing three touchdowns on the ground.
His passing prowess has been evident in games such as one where he completed 11 of 22 attempts for 172 yards and three passing touchdowns. In the same contest, he further solidified his offensive impact with 15 carries for 110 rushing yards and two additional touchdowns.
