UT Health East Texas Physicians – Family Medicine in Bullard has finalized a substantial expansion of its clinic at 435 N. Doctor M. Roper Pkwy., significantly increasing its capacity to serve the growing community of southern Smith County. The newly expanded facility, which almost doubles the number of available exam rooms, was celebrated with an open house on Monday, Aug. 17.

The project added nearly 2,000 square feet to the existing clinic space. This augmentation brought the total number of exam rooms from eight to 14. Among these new additions is a larger room specifically designed to accommodate various in-office procedures, enhancing the scope of services that can be provided directly within the Bullard location.

This increase in physical space is directly intended to allow for the integration of three new healthcare providers into the Bullard clinic team. Furthermore, the expansion creates opportunities for rotating physicians to offer specialty visits, broadening the range of medical expertise available locally. Family medicine physician Florence Cornell, DO, who is slated to commence seeing patients at the clinic in early September, was present at the open house to engage with area residents. She will join established providers Andrew Bowers, MD, and Melody O’Dell, APRN, FNP-C, who also attended the event.

Steven Cox, MD, who serves as the UT Tyler School of Medicine Faculty Practice Plan President, explained that the expansion is a direct response to the "tremendous growth" seen in southern Smith County and the Bullard community. Dr. Cox stated that as the region expands, the organization is committed to investing in facilities that simplify access to necessary care for families, making it available when and where they require it. This investment aims to meet the escalating demand for local medical services.

Jason Boyd, chief operating officer of UT Health East Texas Physicians, articulated the project's aim: to provide high-quality, convenient care readily available close to home for every family in Bullard and the surrounding areas. Florence Cornell, DO, is expected to begin seeing patients in early September, and the expanded clinic will soon begin delivering on its increased capacity for family medical services and specialty care in southern Smith County.
