East Texas football programs are preparing for the 2026 season. Many teams are scheduled to kick off their campaigns in late August, returning key players and experienced coaching staff to build on recent successes.
The Lindale Eagles, 12-1 and regional semifinalists in 2025, anticipate a strong year. Quarterback David Lindig and running back Hank Thurman return. Coach Cochran stated the defensive front "could be the strength of the team." Lindale opens on the road against Hallsville on August 28.
The Kilgore Bulldogs made two consecutive state championship game appearances, falling 10-0 to Stephenville in 2025. Running backs Rayshuan Williams and Takieran White return. Kilgore opens its 2026 campaign on the road against Pleasant Grove in Texarkana on August 28.
The Troup Tigers finished 2025 with 12 wins, returning 16 of 22 starters. The State Executive Committee (SEC) voted quarterback Trevor Golightly eligible. Running back and linebacker Brett Wells leads the team. Troup opens at home against Diboll on August 28.
The Joaquin Rams, under Coach Jared Jones, reached state semifinals or finals in his first two seasons. Running back/free safety Cooper Bragg, who rushed for over 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns, is a key returner. Joaquin travels to Beckville to open its season on August 28.
Gladewater’s Bears, under Coach Jermaine Lewis, celebrated an undefeated district championship in 2025 with 10 wins. Quarterback Achilles Hess, District Newcomer, and defensive lineman Amarion Minter, defensive MVP, are key returners. Gladewater hosts Daingerfield on August 28.
The San Augustine Wolves achieved 10 wins and regional finals in 2025. Coach Tory Barnes leads a team featuring top backfield duo, quarterback Michael Renfro and running back Jeremy Bluford. San Augustine opens on the road against Axtell on August 27.
Longview Lobos Head Coach John King returns for his 23rd season after being sidelined last year. The Lobos made playoffs but recorded five losses. Offensive players Jaden Hurndon and Johnny Hamilton return. Longview opens on the road against Lufkin on August 28.
Sulphur Springs Wildcats, led by Coach Brandon Faircloth, achieved back-to-back 10-win seasons. Quarterback Deuce Timmons and wide receiver Jaxon Virgel return. With two defensive starters, the defense will need to develop. Sulphur Springs starts on the road against Mount Pleasant on August 27.
The Westwood Panthers, with new Coach Randy Pippin, aim to move past controversies. Quarterback Kavian Bryant, a Texas Tech commit, and his brother Kaden are key offensive weapons. Pippin’s first game will be a home contest against Jefferson on August 27.
