A new neuropsychology clinic has opened its doors in Tyler, located directly on the Alzheimer’s Alliance campus in Smith County. This facility is poised to offer East Texans essential memory evaluations and facilitate connections to critical care and family support services within their local community. The clinic is the result of a collaborative partnership between the Alzheimer’s Alliance and The University of Texas at Tyler, a move designed to expand specialized health services available in the region.

UT Tyler President Julie Philley confirmed that the clinic's services are specifically tailored to help individuals with memory concerns obtain thorough evaluations and subsequently find appropriate care pathways. Philley emphasized the significance of neuropsychological testing, calling it "a big piece of the beginning of the puzzle when people are first diagnosed." This initial diagnostic step is fundamental for understanding memory-related issues and guiding subsequent treatment strategies.

The services provided at the new clinic encompass comprehensive testing procedures. Beyond the diagnostic phase, the clinic is also designed to serve as a crucial link, connecting patients with necessary follow-up care from medical physicians and other health professionals. President Philley noted that integrating these specialized services with the existing resources of the Alzheimer’s Alliance will create a streamlined process for patients and their families. This consolidation aims to simplify the navigation of what can often be a complex care system, offering a more accessible journey from a single, familiar location.

This partnership represents a substantial expansion of previous collaborations between the Alzheimer’s Alliance and The University of Texas at Tyler, building upon earlier joint efforts to enhance community health offerings. The development of this neuropsychology clinic has been a significant undertaking, with the planning and preparation phase extending over more than a year. The project has received support from multiple entities, including the Alzheimer’s Alliance itself, the wider community, and the UT Tyler School of Medicine, underscoring a shared commitment to addressing memory care needs across East Texas.

The establishment of this clinic holds particular importance for families throughout East Texas who are affected by dementia, a point highlighted by President Philley. She stressed the profound value of accessible local resources, drawing from her own family's experiences with dementia. The primary objective of the new clinic is to significantly enhance access to vital evaluations, effective treatment options, and comprehensive support systems for residents not only within Smith County but also across the broader East Texas area. This initiative seeks to ensure that more individuals and families can obtain the specialized memory care they require without facing the burden of extensive travel, thereby strengthening the network of local health services dedicated to memory-related conditions.
