Tyler and Bullard communities are set to host a range of events this weekend, spanning from Saturday, Oct. 24, through Monday, Oct. 26. Offerings include a state championship ring ceremony, trick-or-treating alternatives, and a costumed baseball game, hosted by UT Tyler, Tyler Junior College, and Bullard.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the University of Texas at Tyler will hold a walk-through Trunk or Treat event in Parking Lot 16, which is located adjacent to the Citizen’s 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. The event, hosted by The Patriots and Greek Life, is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m., or until all candy has been distributed. The community is encouraged to attend the university’s preceding soccer games, with the women’s team playing Midwestern State at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s team facing Oklahoma Christian at 3 p.m. Volunteers at the Trunk or Treat will distribute candy from decorated cars and provide games and activities for participating children. According to the Greek Life associations, the event “provides members of the Tyler community an alternative to traditional trick-or-treating in a fun and safe environment.” Restrooms for the event will be available in the Herrington Patriot Center.
Sunday, Oct. 25, marks two distinct events in the region. In Bullard, the Class 4A Division I state softball champion Bullard Lady Panthers will be honored with their State Championship Ring Ceremony. This celebration is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the Bullard High School Auditorium, located at 1426 S. Houston St. During the ceremony, players and coaches will reflect on their championship season, and each will be presented with their championship ring. Later the same day, Tyler Junior College will host its 12th Annual Halloween at Home Plate. This long-standing community event will take place at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Mike Carter Field, situated at 400 Fair Park Dr. in Tyler.
The weekend’s festivities conclude on Monday, Oct. 26, when the Bullard Panther baseball team hosts its annual Bullard Baseball Halloween Game. The game is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Bullard ISD Athletic Complex, found at 2008 Panther Crossing, behind Bullard Elementary. During this event, Bullard baseball players will wear costumes and scrimmage against each other. The school has extended an invitation to the community to attend, encouraging residents to wear their own costumes and join in the celebration.
