Conner Weigman, the quarterback for the University of Houston, has been named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the seventh week of the college football season. Cindy Smoak, Executive Director of SPORTyler and The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced the honor on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Weigman earned the recognition after leading the Cougars to a 35-32 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday in Houston. During the game, Weigman recorded 343 passing yards and a career-high five touchdowns. These statistics marked the most passing yards by a Houston Cougar in a ranked match-up since 2012. His five touchdown passes were also the highest number ever thrown by a Houston quarterback against a ranked opponent.
For the current season, Weigman is tied for the lead among Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players in total touchdowns with 26. He stands as one of only two FBS quarterbacks to have achieved 20 passing touchdowns with two or fewer interceptions thrown.
This marks the second consecutive week that a Houston Cougar player has received recognition from The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award committee. Last week, tight end Patrick Overmyer was honored. Weigman is a graduate of Bridgeland High School, located in Cypress.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award was established in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler. The award aims to recognize the top offensive player in Division I football who embodies the characteristics defining Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity. Specifically, the award highlights persistence and determination in overcoming adversity and injury to achieve goals. To be nominated, a player must fulfill at least one of two criteria: having played football and graduated from a Texas high school, and/or currently playing at a four-year Division I Texas college.
Previous recipients of The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week include: Kevin Jennings, quarterback, SMU (Week 1); Drew Mestemaker, quarterback, Oklahoma State (Week 2); Michael Hawkins Jr., quarterback, West Virginia (Week 3); Keelon Russell, quarterback, Alabama (Week 4); DJ Lagway, quarterback, Baylor (Week 5); and Patrick Overmyer, tight end, Houston (Week 6).
For the seventh week, honorable mentions were also given to several players. These included AJ Newberry, running back, Oregon State; Amare Thomas, wide receiver, Houston; Brad Jackson, quarterback, Texas State; Cale Hellums, quarterback, Army; J’Koby Wiliams, running back, Texas Tech; Jordan Dwyer, wide receiver, TCU; Keldric Luster, quarterback, Ball State; Michael Hawkins Jr., quarterback, West Virginia; Owen McCown, quarterback, UTSA; and Torrance Burgess Jr., running back, Texas State. The award continues to track outstanding offensive performances throughout the college football season, culminating in a yearly recognition of a player who exemplifies both athletic excellence and the enduring spirit of Earl Campbell.
