Houston senior tight end Patrick Overmyer was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the sixth week of the college football season. The honor, announced on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, by Cindy Smoak, Executive Director of SPORTyler and The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, recognized Overmyer’s four-touchdown performance that tied the NCAA single-game receiving record for a tight end. His efforts contributed significantly to the Cougars' 35-19 victory over Kansas State on Saturday.

During the game held in Manhattan, Kansas, Overmyer's four touchdown catches marked the third most in Houston program history and established a new school record for tight ends. Beyond his record-tying Saturday performance, Overmyer's season statistics include 399 receiving yards, placing him second nationally among all players and first within the Big 12 conference. For his outstanding play, he was also named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday. Overmyer, a Kingwood native, is a graduate of Kingwood Park High School.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, established in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, aims to recognize the top offensive player in Division I football. Candidates for the award are evaluated not only on their athletic performance but also on their embodiment of characteristics associated with Earl Campbell, including integrity, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community engagement, and tenacity. A specific emphasis is placed on a nominee's persistence, determination to overcome adversity, and ability to recover from injury while pursuing their objectives. To be eligible for the award, nominees must have played football and graduated from a Texas High School, or be currently playing at a four-year Division I Texas college.

This week's award for Overmyer marks a tight end's recognition, following a series of quarterbacks who received the honor earlier in the season. Previous winners include Kevin Jennings from SMU (Week 1), Drew Mestemaker from Oklahoma State (Week 2), Michael Hawkins Jr. from West Virginia (Week 3), Keelon Russell from Alabama (Week 4), and DJ Lagway from Baylor (Week 5). Other notable players earning an honorable mention this week for their performances included running back A’marion Peterson of UTSA, quarterback Blake Baker of Louisiana Tech, quarterback Cale Hellums of Army, running back Cardae Mack of Arizona State, quarterback Conner Weigman of Houston, tight end Eli Finley of Louisiana Tech, quarterback Jackson Gutierrez of Navy, wide receiver Justin Stevenson of North Texas, running back Owen Allen of Air Force, and quarterback Tayven Jackson of North Texas.

The award continues to highlight exceptional offensive talent in college football, with future weekly honorees expected to be announced throughout the season.
