Lindale's College Street Elementary has been designated a 2026 Lone Star Ribbon School by Governor Gregg Abbott, an honor recognizing outstanding academic performance. The Lindale Independent School District announced the recognition, noting that College Street Elementary is one of only 25 public schools across Texas to receive this statewide distinction.
The Lone Star Ribbon Schools program, established by Governor Abbott in 2025, was created to acknowledge campuses for exceptional educational standards. This program replaced the National Blue Ribbon Schools program after its discontinuation. Campuses eligible for the Lone Star Ribbon designation must achieve an overall “A” accountability rating. Furthermore, schools must demonstrate strong performance across various accountability domains and consistent success on state assessments to qualify for the recognition.
Governor Abbott established the program to invest in the students, teachers, staff, and parents he described as essential to building a brighter Texas. He stated, “Young Texans are the future of our state,” emphasizing the critical need for access to a high-quality education.
In a news release, Lindale ISD congratulated the entire College Street Elementary family on earning this prestigious statewide honor. The recognition underscores the consistent high achievement of students and educators at the Lindale campus. The district’s statement highlighted the school’s dedication to maintaining rigorous academic standards that align with the state’s criteria for top-performing schools.
This honor reflects the school’s sustained commitment to student success and academic excellence within the East Texas region. The program’s criteria ensure that only schools demonstrating comprehensive educational strength are selected. The selection of College Street Elementary is a testament to its educators’ efforts in fostering an environment where students can thrive academically.
The recognition is part of a broader state initiative to spotlight public schools that are models of academic achievement. By replacing a national program with a state-specific one, Texas aims to focus its efforts on recognizing its own institutions that meet stringent performance metrics. The 2026 designation marks a significant milestone for College Street Elementary, positioning it among the state’s elite academic institutions for the current year.
This acknowledgment from the state, through the Governor’s office, provides public recognition of the hard work and dedication within the Lindale educational community. It also sets a benchmark for other schools aspiring to similar levels of academic success in Texas. The Lone Star Ribbon program serves as a new standard for recognizing and celebrating educational excellence statewide, emphasizing the importance of robust public education. The ongoing success demonstrated by College Street Elementary aligns with the state’s vision for high-quality educational access for all students.
The Lindale Independent School District’s commendation further solidifies the local pride in this achievement. The focus on strong performance across accountability domains and consistent success on state assessments means that the recognition is based on measurable and sustained educational outcomes. This comprehensive approach to evaluation ensures that schools earning the Lone Star Ribbon truly exemplify academic distinction. The honor will likely serve as a source of motivation for continued educational excellence within the district.
