Tyler Junior College (TJC) has reported its highest-ever fall student enrollment, welcoming 13,147 total students. This figure breaks the college's previous fall record by nearly 3% and coincides with TJC's 100th anniversary. The institution, which officially opened on September 17, 1926, began with 93 students and nine faculty members. At that time, Tyler’s population had not yet reached 17,000 residents, indicating an early community recognition of the need for local higher education.

Dr. Juan E. Mejia, TJC president and CEO, stated that communities in the region have leaders who "strategically work together to create access and to promote success through education," describing the record as a "powerful reflection of that synergy." He noted the diverse student body, which ranges in age from 13 to 88. These students come from various backgrounds, are at different stages of life, and pursue different goals, including preparing to transfer to a university, building skills for new careers, or seeking an education they may have once believed was out of reach. Dr. Mejia emphasized that students find world-class academic and workforce programs, a comprehensive collegiate experience, and individuals dedicated to their success at TJC.

TJC’s sustained commitment to providing high-quality, affordable education and training opportunities for East Texas and beyond has been a hallmark of its century of operation. The college offers a wide variety of degree and certificate programs, alongside workforce and continuing education courses. These offerings aim to provide a comprehensive collegiate experience, supported by services designed to help students thrive both academically and personally.

The institution provides access to nearly 140 programs of study. These programs cover a broad range of areas, including arts, sciences, health professions, business, technology, and trades, catering to both traditional students and adult learners. Coursework is available at several locations, including its main campus in Tyler, as well as sites in Lindale, Jacksonville, and Rusk. Additionally, TJC offers online and hybrid options to further convenience students.

Annually, TJC serves almost 21,000 students across its credit and non-credit programs. More than 19,000 students are enrolled in credit programs, while nearly 4,000 are in continuing studies. The college’s 145-acre central campus, along with its multiple other sites, features rigorous academic offerings, 70 national athletic championships, and robust fine and performing arts programs. Modern residential facilities are also available, complemented by numerous organizations and clubs designed to promote student engagement and diversity.

TJC strives to deliver an outstanding educational experience that prepares students for success in their chosen careers and within their communities. Looking ahead, Dr. Mejia conveyed optimism about the college's future, particularly as it marks its 100th year. He underscored the deep connection between the success of East Texas and the college, asserting that when TJC students thrive, the surrounding communities also thrive.
