Tyler Junior College has recorded its largest fall student enrollment in its history, welcoming 13,147 total students this semester. This record-breaking figure surpasses TJC's previous fall enrollment by nearly three percent and coincides with the institution's centennial celebration. The college, which officially opened on September 17, 1926, with just 93 students and nine faculty members, now serves students across East Texas and beyond from its campuses in Tyler, Lindale, Jacksonville, and Rusk, as well as through online and hybrid options.

The significant enrollment growth reflects TJC’s sustained commitment to providing accessible and high-quality educational and training opportunities. When TJC was founded, the city of Tyler had not yet reached 17,000 residents, but local leaders recognized a critical need for higher education close to home. The community quickly developed plans to establish the college to address this educational gap.

Dr. Juan E. Mejia, TJC president and CEO, highlighted the collaborative efforts behind the college's success. "We can proudly celebrate that our communities have leaders who strategically work together to create access and to promote success through education, and this historic enrollment is a powerful reflection of that synergy," Dr. Mejia stated. He noted that TJC's students represent diverse backgrounds, ages ranging from 13 to 88, and various life stages, each pursuing different goals—whether transferring to a university, developing new career skills, or achieving educational aspirations once considered out of reach.

At TJC, students engage with world-class academic and workforce programs within a comprehensive collegiate experience, supported by staff who genuinely care about their success. The college offers a wide array of degree and certificate programs, alongside workforce and continuing education courses. With nearly 140 programs of study, TJC spans areas including arts, sciences, health professions, business, technology, and trades, serving both traditional students and adult learners.

Annually, TJC serves almost 21,000 students across its credit and non-credit programs. Over 19,000 students participate in credit programs, with nearly 4,000 enrolled in continuing studies. The college is dedicated to providing an exceptional educational experience designed to prepare students for success in their chosen careers and within their communities.

The main campus spans 145 acres and is complemented by multiple additional sites, offering rigorous academics, extensive fine and performing arts programs, and modern residential facilities. TJC also boasts 70 national athletic championships and a variety of organizations and clubs that foster student engagement and diversity. Dr. Mejia concluded by expressing optimism for the future, noting, "The success of East Texas and this College has always been deeply connected." He added that when TJC students thrive, the surrounding communities also thrive, suggesting a bright outlook for the college and the region.
