Tyler Legacy Head Coach Beau Trahan, now in his fourth season with the Red Raiders, acknowledged the special nature of the contest. He noted that a rivalry game is "always a special game" for the players, many of whom grew up playing youth football with their opponents. He added that the game brings "bragging rights" within the community. However, Trahan also emphasized that ultimately, it is a chance for his team to improve, stating the Red Raiders must "take care of business" despite the heightened emotions and larger crowd expected.
Legacy enters the game as the visiting team, aiming to build on last season's 48-21 victory over Tyler High, which ended the Lions' two-game winning streak in the series. The Red Raiders are coming off a 35-26 setback in their season opener against Texas High. Meanwhile, Tyler High started its season with a 42-27 win over Marshall.
Several Red Raiders players expressed their anticipation for the rivalry game. Junior defensive lineman Quinton Rogers, a member of the Class of 2028, highlighted a history of winning against the Lions at freshman and sophomore levels, stating an intention to continue that trend. Rogers made an impact in the season opener with four tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble, commenting that the team's "new defense is going to be awesome this year."
Sophomore running back Jaylin Miles will experience his first rivalry game, which is only his second varsity contest. Miles had a notable performance in the season opener, with 11 carries for 83 yards, a 69-yard pass completion on the first play, and a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Miles described the kickoff return as "really special."
