Tyler Legacy will travel for the first time this month to face Mesquite Horn on Friday, September 25, at Mesquite Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Red Raiders, with a 1-3 overall record and an 0-1 start in district play, are looking for their initial district win of the season. Mesquite Horn enters the contest with an 0-4 overall record and an 0-1 district record, having lost 10 of its last 11 games.
Tyler Legacy comes into the game following a 63-35 loss to Rockwall-Heath in their district opener. Head football coach Beau Trahan emphasized the need for defensive improvements and consistent offensive execution. Trahan noted, “We’ve got to get some stops on defense. And then obviously execution.” He also highlighted areas of strength, stating that the team’s run game has been outstanding, and special teams have been performing well across all phases. The Red Raiders’ ground game has been productive, averaging 301.5 yards per game and scoring 15 touchdowns. Through the air, Legacy averages 108.5 yards per game with five touchdowns and only one interception. Offensively, Tyler Legacy averages 41.0 points per game, while its defense is allowing 48.75 points per contest.
Mesquite Horn’s season has included losses to Plano East (55-21), Keller Central (45-18), Wylie (58-26), and Rockwall (69-48). The Jaguars are averaging 28.25 points per game and allowing 56.75 points per game. Horn utilizes two quarterbacks, Kai Furtch and Demaje Dandridge, to manage its offense. Furtch, a transfer from North Lamar, has completed 20 of 68 passes for 358 yards, three touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also contributes significantly in the run game with 27 carries for 200 yards and two touchdowns, and as a receiver with 11 catches for 253 yards and four touchdowns. Dandridge has completed 27 of 42 passes for 606 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception.
Coach Trahan identified Furtch as a “dynamic football player” and noted Horn’s offensive strategy to “spread you out and try to get their guys in space.” He also observed that Horn’s defense plays “a lot of different guys, a lot of different schemes,” requiring Legacy to effectively identify their defensive alignments. The Jaguars’ rushing attack averages 149.75 yards per game, with Furtch and Radarrius Wilson carrying much of the load. Wilson has recorded 33 carries for 199 yards and three touchdowns.
Other district matchups this week include Longview (3-1, 1-0) traveling to face Royse City (1-3, 0-1). Longview opened district play with a 49-13 victory over North Forney, while Royse City fell 30-27 to Forney. Forney (1-3, 1-0) will play at Rockwall-Heath (2-2, 1-0), and Rockwall (3-1, 1-0) will host North Forney (0-3, 0-1).
Following this week’s games, the entire district will have a bye. Tyler Legacy will return to action on October 9, when they host North Forney. Mesquite Horn will play at Forney after the bye week.
