The 16th annual Paint Palestine Pink event is set to take place this Saturday, uniting the Palestine community for a day of races and family-friendly festivities aimed at funding vital diagnostic cancer screenings for East Texans. The initiative directly supports residents who are underinsured or lack insurance, covering expensive diagnostic tests often subject to high deductibles.
Organized for the 16th consecutive year, the event offers three distinct races: a 10.5-mile run, a 5K race, and a one-mile fun run. All races will commence from the area outside Texas Oncology, located at 3415 South Loop 256 in Palestine. Registration for participants will open at 6:30 a.m., with staggered race starts beginning promptly at 7:30 a.m.
Co-organizer Jerry Lee Peoples explained the specific impact of the funds raised. "Our monies go for those that are underinsured or non-insured," Peoples stated. He further clarified that these proceeds are allocated to directly assist local residents in Anderson County and the immediate surrounding areas. The financial support is crucial for covering the cost of diagnostic tests, which can be prohibitively expensive, particularly for individuals facing high insurance deductibles or those without adequate coverage. This targeted assistance helps remove financial barriers to critical health screenings.
Paint Palestine Pink was established in 2010 by Jerry Lee Peoples, Tara Hooper, and Kevin Watts. What began as a modest, one-day fundraising effort has grown significantly over the years. Since its inception, the initiative has played a substantial role in the community, facilitating access to crucial testing for thousands of individuals. Its sustained operation reflects an ongoing commitment to addressing a significant public health need within Anderson County and its adjacent communities.
Beyond the competitive and recreational races, attendees can enjoy a range of additional attractions designed for family enjoyment. The event grounds will feature food trucks, bounce houses for younger participants, games of cornhole, and a variety of vendor booths offering goods and information. These additional activities contribute to the festival atmosphere, encouraging broader community participation beyond just the race participants.
Full registration details and the complete schedule of events are available for interested participants and attendees online. The annual gathering stands as a testament to local efforts to ensure access to essential health services for vulnerable populations in East Texas.
