Tyler Junior College's (TJC) Theatre Department will present the Tony Award-winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen” for a four-night run in October 2026. Performances are scheduled from Wednesday, Oct. 7, through Saturday, Oct. 10, each evening at 7:30 p.m. All shows will take place at the Jean Browne Theatre, located on TJC's main campus in Tyler. This production contains mature themes, and audiences are advised that it may not be suitable for all viewers.
“Dear Evan Hansen” tells the story of high school senior Evan Hansen, whose life changes dramatically after a letter never intended for others to read draws him into a grieving family's loss. This tragic situation ultimately provides Evan with an unexpected opportunity to experience a sense of belonging. The musical explores how a simple fabrication can lead to complex truths, offering a perspective on grief, authenticity, and the human search for connection in an era characterized by both instant communication and deep isolation. The production delves into themes of modern isolation, social anxiety, and the fundamental need for human connection. The musical enjoyed a six-year run on Broadway, becoming a notable success with theater audiences.
The TJC Theatre production is directed by Jacob Davis, with musical direction provided by Charles Praytor. Nathaniel Franklin of Troup serves as the stage manager, and Kenedee Fischer of Forney is the director's assistant. The original music and lyrics for “Dear Evan Hansen” were written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with the book by Steven Levenson. TJC's presentation of the musical is made possible through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
