The Tyler Junior College (TJC) Theatre Department will present the acclaimed Broadway musical “Dear Evan Hansen” at the Jean Browne Theatre on the college’s main campus in Tyler. Performances are scheduled from Wednesday, Oct. 7, through Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, with curtain times at 7:30 p.m. nightly. This Tony Award-winning musical, celebrated for its exploration of modern isolation, social anxiety, and human connection, advises potential attendees that the production contains mature themes and may not be suitable for all audiences.
“Dear Evan Hansen” follows high school senior Evan Hansen, whose life is profoundly impacted when a letter, never intended for public view, draws him into a grieving family's loss. This tragic event unexpectedly offers Evan a chance to belong, as a simple lie evolves into a series of complicated truths. The story is characterized as a big-hearted coming-of-age narrative that delves into themes of grief, authenticity, and the universal struggle to find belonging in an age defined by both instant connectivity and profound isolation. The musical previously enjoyed a significant six-year run on Broadway, where it was met with considerable success from theater audiences.
The TJC Theatre Department's presentation of “Dear Evan Hansen” is directed by Jacob Davis, with Charles Praytor serving as the musical director. Nathaniel Franklin of Troup is the stage manager for the production, and Kenedee Fischer of Forney is the director’s assistant. The musical features music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with the book written by Steven Levenson. This presentation is made possible through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
