The Tyler Junior College (TJC) Theatre Department will present the Tony Award-winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen” at the Jean Browne Theatre on the college’s main campus in Tyler. Performances are scheduled from Wednesday, Oct. 7, through Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, with all shows beginning at 7:30 p.m. The production explores themes of grief, authenticity, and the struggle to belong in an era of instant connectivity and isolation. Attendees are advised that the musical contains mature themes and may not be suitable for all audiences.
“Dear Evan Hansen” centers on high school senior Evan Hansen, whose life intertwines with a family’s grief after a letter, never meant to be read, draws him into their loss. This tragic situation offers Evan a chance to feel a sense of belonging, as a simple lie leads to complex truths. The musical examines modern isolation, social anxiety, and human connection, asking, "On the outside, looking in. Will I ever be more than I’ve always been?" The production enjoyed a six-year run on Broadway, where it was a smash hit with theater audiences.
Jacob Davis is directing the TJC Theatre Department's presentation, with Charles Praytor providing musical direction. Nathaniel Franklin of Troup serves as the stage manager, and Kenedee Fischer of Forney is the director’s assistant. The music and lyrics for “Dear Evan Hansen” were written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with the book by Steven Levenson. This local production is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
